THSCA Announces
Major Upgrades to Press Box Services and the
Addition of Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Baseball
& Softball
The enhanced Press
Box will allow not only football, but also
volleyball, boys and girls basketball, boys and
girls soccer, baseball and softball to enter
real-time reporting of scores and statistics using a
computer or even their blackberry, iPhone or windows
mobile phone. We are delighted to be expanding this
site to include not only more sports this year, but
also the technology for real-time scores and
statistics. We have worked closely with our
long-time technology partner, Assistant Coach
Systems, and our newest partner Pointstreak to make
Press Box an even better tool for coaches, parents,
athletes and fans.
As with any large technical transition we should
expect to have some issues with functionality and
adoption. We will do our best to overcome these
challenges as quickly as possible, but we ask all
fans, coaches and statisticians to be patient with
us through the launch and stabilization process!
Thank you for your participation and Good Luck this
season!!

S.B.O.E. TAKES THE
FIRST STEP TO EQUALIZE GRADUATION CREDITS FOR ATHLETICS
On Thursday, March 26th, 2009 the State Board of
Education passed out of committee "Option 2" of the
5 Options that were presented by the T.E.A. Staff
for consideration of increasing allowable graduation
credits for athletics. "Option 2" would expand the
number of allowable state physical education credits
to four. Below is the "Implementation Timeline"
suggested by the T.E.A. Staff to put into effect
this option.
This is a "BIG STEP" in our efforts to put athletics
on equal footing with regard to state credits for
electives, but there is still a lot of work to be
done as we begin this implementation process for
"Option 2."

PRE-DETERMINED SITE FOR 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
GAMES 2008:
The UIL announced on
June 25th that the "2008 Class 5A Division I and
Division II State Football Championship Games"
will be held at Reliant Stadium in Houston on
December 20th. The Alamodome in San Antonio had
been hosting the games since the UIL decided to
hold them at a central site on a two-year trial
basis in 2006.
This announcement comes, despite the fact that
the Texas High School Coaches Association asked
for the issue to be placed on referendum ballot.
Considering that the pre-determined site for the
5A football championship was in the 2nd year of
a two-year trial, the THSCA felt it was
important to give the UIL Legislative Council
feedback from our coaches and bard, which was
overwhelmingly opposed to continuing the
"pre-determined" site. The THSCA presented
results on three occasions to the Council and
requested that this issue be placed on
referendum ballot, which allows member schools
to vote on the issue.
At the June, 2008, UIL Legislative Council
Meeting, the UIL Staff recommended to the
Standing Committee on Athletics to not place the
pre-determined site issue on their referendum
ballot; and to continue the 5A pre-determined
site for championship games through 2011.

Council,
