MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION

1.    The THSCA membership enhances your professional growth and gives you an opportunity to contribute to the improvement
        of your profession.

 2.    Members of the THSCA are represented by a strong State leadership organization, which protects the coaching profession’s best interest, and strives for the highest possible professional standards, as outlined by our Bylaws, Policies and Code of Ethics.

 3.    Permanent Disability Benefit Program – benefits of $1,200.00 – $1,700.00 per athlete, per year, if head coach** of team is a member of the THSCA at time of injury.

4.     Memorial Athletic Benefit Program – death benefit of $3,000.00 to parent(s) of athlete when death was caused while participating in a scheduled practice or game, if head coach** of team is a member of the THSCA at the time of death.

 5.    Benevolence Fund – This fund is used for special needs and hardship cases in the areas of Permanent Injury and Memorial Benefits for our athletes and coaches.

6.    Coaching School is held each year.  The four-day annual conference offers cutting-edge educational sessions and multiple networking events and exhibits and provides opportunities for members to benefit from a variety of rules meetings and outstanding speakers.  It provides new contacts, a line of communication and forum for the exchange of ideas and information within your profession for a minimal tuition.  

7.    Continuing Professional Development Certification – The aim of this program is to keep our coaches abreast of up-to-date information on key and essential topical matters relating to the health and safety issues as well as developmental issues affecting our student athletes today.  

8.     Active Members (coaches of Texas secondary schools and athletic directors in the public school system of the UIL who are actively coaching) are eligible to vote in all Association elections, and nominate coaches for Hall of Honor, Board of Directors, All-Star Coach, Advisory Committees and other awards.  

9.    THSCA members receive 9 issues of TEXAS COACH, the primary publication of the THSCA.  TEXAS COACH contains articles on the skills and techniques of the various sports as well as articles on current topics of interest relating to the safety and well being of our student athletes.

10.  Eligibility of senior boys to be nominated and considered for the annual All Star squads.  Providing the head coach of sport is a member of the THSCA as of October 15th, each year.  

11.   THSCA members have unlimited access to the Association’s World Wide Web site which includes:  

a)       Updated Job Database – new search engines aid members as they search for job openings.

b)       Employment Profile Database – allows coaches to post personal employment profiles and search candidate database.

c)       The THSCA Buyers Guide – Members have the ability to search the vendors guide online for products and services.

d)       THSCA Open Dates Bureau to aid coaches in scheduling of games and scrimmages in all sports.

e)       THSCA Academic All-State Teams posted on-line.

f)         Press Box Services – allows members and the public to view on-line team pages, schedules, results and standings for every school participating in football in Texas .

g)       THSCA Fan Alert – provides for an email subscription for supporters of Texas high school athletics along with a means of communication for high school athletic departments and fans.

h)       THSCA Recruiting Coordinator – the THSCA software product that provides coaches with resources and tools to aid in the recruiting process.

i)         Press Box Play-off Brackets – THSCA provides up-to-date playoff site and time information for all football teams participating in the Texas high school football play-offs 

j)       Membership Information – offers up to date information on THSCA events, programs and services.  

12.  State Championship Ring for head coaches of boys UIL sports who is a member in good standing as of October 15th, (coaches of girls UIL sports will be awarded rings by the TGCA).  

13.      25-Year Plaques for those who have completed 25 years of membership in the THSCA  

14.   THSCA Hall of Honor – to honor members and past members of the Association for outstanding leadership and service to the coaching profession.  

15.    Victory Plaques & Certificates are given to coaches in all sports who have reached the required number of wins for that sport.  

16.       Eligibility of senior football players to be nominated for THSCA Academic All-State teams.  

17.      Your senior son or daughter would be eligible to receive one of the ten scholarships being offered by the THSCA totaling $10,000 per year.  

18.      THSCA members have access to the THSCA Professional Development Cooperative (PDC) at the Annual Coaching School & Convention.  These lectures are designed to enhance the knowledge of our coaches on current topics of interest relating to the safety and well being of our student athletes. Topics have included:  Management of Asthma in Athletics, Concussion Protocol, Managing the Obese Athlete, Beating the Heat, Exercise and Sudden Death in Young Athletes, How Coaches Can Improve their Communication Skills and Teaching Character in Athletics.  

** The THSCA interprets “head coach” to mean the coach who is responsible for the team and is actually responsible for substituting during competition of any of the UIL sanctioned school sports.  (i.e., varsity, junior varsity, sophomore teams, freshman teams, 7th & 8th grade teams.  The head coach must be an active member and in good standing on the day prior to the death or injury occurred.
